Strawberry Creek Lodge is set in a large, beautifully-landscaped green lot on the banks of Strawberry Creek. The forefathers who planned this lodge in 1960 were attracted by the new idea of Seniors Independent Living. Five people of similar mind got together to make it a reality.
One fine morning’s walk on the banks of Strawberry Creek among the huge green trees gave them the right location. Then President Kennedy started HUD loans for building senior residences.
Everything began falling into place: a nonprofit foundation was incorporated, a HUD loan was secured, and the lodge was built. It is a diamond in the heart of Berkeley, protected from street noise on all four sides. Great trees and green surrounding gardens make the creekside campus unique. A vibrant and active tenants’ association supplements the physical beauty of the lodge with many activities for the tenants.
