Taught by CERT instructor, Shawn Connors, of the Berkeley Fire Department

In a disaster, we will have to rely on ourselves to respond to injuries.

CERT Disaster Medical training, in four sessions, will teach us to

1     Rapidly diagnose and treat three killers -- airway obstruction, excessive bleeding and shock.

2     Rapidly triage (sort) injured people into their level of need for medical attention.
3     Set up and manage a medical area and a morgue, practicing in a safe and sanitary manner.

4     Do a head-to-toe assessment of an injured person.    5     Treat various injuries in disaster conditions.

The City of Berkeley offers free CERT training to anyone who lives or works in Berkeley, who is 18 years of age or older.

*  FEMA’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program provides education in disaster preparedness & provides training in basic emergency skills.
